Keyword Research For Online Business
Every webmaster has one thing in common, and it is that they want top listings in search engines. If you choose the wrong keywords from the beginning, you will never get any sales. If you want success online, keyword research is definitely necessary. If you do not do keyword research before starting an online business, you will fail.
Many webmasters that eventually fail after a short amount of time recommend using long tail keywords. I have no idea who came up with this logic, but it can be a real waste of time. Many keywords that are long tail never get searched at all. If you optimize for some long tail keywords, it doesn’t matter if you are first or last, you won’t see any traffic.
To make money online, you should find the keywords that are getting searched but don’t have a lot of competition. It not an issue if a keyword is long tail or not. The length of keywords has nothing to do with how hard it will be to rank well for them. Some five word keywords are more competitive than one word keywords, and they would be considered long tail.
I will let you know exactly what I do for keyword research. First, I examine hundreds of keywords and pick some that apply to my website. Secondly, I use a keyword research tool called Keyword Elite and I find how much each keyword gets search per month. I do not use the Google Keyword Tool because I don’t think it’s very accurate.
Next, I do a search in the search engine for the keywords that get good search traffic. I pick the site that is ranking number one, and I use the link command in Yahoo to examine the websites linking to them. After putting the website into Yahoo for analyzing, I check to see how many links the site has with the search keyword.
If most of the links do not contain the keyword in them, then I know that the website owner is a rookie. The realization is that the website owner does not know much about SEO, and I can get the number one spot with links and time.
Most people think it’s going to be much harder than it really is to rank well. You have to realize that majority of website owners are ranking off of luck, and they actually do not know much about optimization. It is pretty easy to take the number one ranking and start earning money, if you find the right keywords.
